A Fantastic First Annual Sports Day for Our Supported Living Residents
Yesterday marked a truly special occasion as we proudly hosted our very first Annual Sports Day for residents across all of our supported living houses. It was a day filled with laughter, teamwork, friendly competition and a wonderful sense of community that brought everyone together in the best possible way.
From the moment the event began, there was an atmosphere of excitement and encouragement. Residents arrived ready to participate, cheer one another on and most importantly, have fun. Staff members worked alongside residents throughout the day to ensure everyone felt included, supported and celebrated.
A Community Picnic Prepared Together
Before all of the games and activities, everyone came together to enjoy a community picnic. One of the most meaningful parts of the day was that the food had been prepared by the staff with the assistance of the residents.
The picnic gave everyone the chance to relax, socialise before all of the games kicked off. Residents enjoyed a variety of homemade dishes, snacks, and refreshments while spending quality time with friends from different supported living houses.
The teamwork involved in preparing the food highlighted the independence, creativity and collaboration of our residents, while also showing the strong relationships built between residents and support staff.
An Exciting Rounders Match Ends in a Tie
One of the highlights of the day was undoubtedly the rounders match. Residents and staff split into two teams, each determined to take home the win. From impressive catches to powerful hits and fast-paced running between bases, both teams gave it their all.
The game was full of energy and laughter, with teammates cheering one another on from the sidelines and staff members joining in the encouragement. There were some fantastic moments of teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the match, with players helping each other stay motivated and confident.
As the game reached its final innings, the competition became incredibly close. In an exciting finish, both teams ended the game with exactly the same score, resulting in a well-deserved tie. Rather than disappointment, the result was met with applause and smiles all around, perfectly capturing the spirit of the day — participation, togetherness and enjoyment over competition.
Sack Race Brings Plenty of Laughter
The sack race quickly became one of the funniest events of the afternoon. Residents and staff lined up in their sacks, ready to hop their way to victory while supporters gathered around to cheer them on.
There were plenty of dramatic moments as racers bounced, stumbled and laughed their way toward the finish line. The determination shown by everyone taking part was incredible and the crowd’s encouragement created a fantastic atmosphere. Every participant crossed the finish line to huge applause, making the race memorable for everyone involved.
Careful Concentration in the Egg and Spoon Race
The egg and spoon race tested residents’ patience, focus and balance. Participants carefully made their way across the course, concentrating hard to keep their eggs steady while trying not to lose pace.
The race created some tense moments, with spectators watching closely as residents navigated the challenge. There were also plenty of laughs whenever an egg took an unexpected tumble. Residents showed fantastic perseverance, often picking themselves back up with smiles and continuing the race with determination.
It was wonderful to see so many people encouraging one another regardless of the result, demonstrating the supportive environment that exists across all of our houses.
Speed and Skill in the Bean Bag Race
Another crowd favourite was the bean bag race, which brought out both speed and precision from participants. Residents competed enthusiastically, balancing bean bags and racing toward the finish while trying to stay steady under pressure.
The race was filled with excitement, as supporters clapped and cheered for every participant. Residents demonstrated confidence, resilience and great sportsmanship throughout the event, with many celebrating each other’s achievements just as much as their own.
Celebrating Togetherness and Achievement
Our first Annual Sports Day was far more than just a sporting event. It was a celebration of inclusion, confidence, friendship, and community spirit. Seeing residents from all of our supported living houses come together to support one another was incredibly heartwarming and a true reflection of the positive environment we strive to create every day.
We are so proud of every resident who took part, whether they competed in the races, supported their peers from the sidelines, helped prepare food or simply came along to enjoy the day.
A huge thank you goes to all staff members who helped organise the event and supported residents throughout the day. Their hard work and encouragement made this special occasion possible.
After such a successful and enjoyable first Sports Day, we are already looking forward to making next year’s event even bigger and better.
