Stepping Together for Learning Disability Week
As Learning Disability Week comes to a close, we wanted to mark the occasion in a meaningful way. To celebrate this year’s theme, “Do You See Me?”, members of our team and the people we support came together for a sponsored walk along the seafront in aid of Mencap.
The theme encourages people to look beyond labels and recognise individuals for who they are—their personalities, talents, aspirations and achievements. It is a message that reflects the values we strive to uphold every day across our supported living services.
The sponsored walk was a fantastic opportunity to bring people together, enjoy the outdoors, and raise awareness for an important cause. The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with positivity, encouragement and plenty of smiles as everyone took part at their own pace.
For the people we support, the day was about much more than fundraising. It was an opportunity to spend time with friends, enjoy being part of the local community, and take pride in contributing to a cause that celebrates the rights and achievements of people with learning disabilities.
We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part. Events like these remind us of the importance of inclusion, participation and creating opportunities for people to be active members of their communities.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported our fundraiser. Thanks to your generosity, we exceeded our original fundraising target, helping to support Mencap’s work in advocating for people with learning disabilities and promoting greater understanding and inclusion.
While Learning Disability Week may only last seven days, its message continues throughout the year. The question “Do You See Me?” challenges all of us to look beyond assumptions and recognise the unique strengths, interests and contributions of every individual.
As an organisation, we remain committed to supporting people to live fulfilling lives, pursue their goals and be recognised for who they are.
Thank you to everyone who helped make our sponsored walk such a success and for joining us in celebrating Learning Disability Week 2026.
Together, we can help create a society where everyone is seen, heard and valued.
